It’s late Saturday afternoon. I’m in my office and part time studio. I’m recording another episode of Radio Soulcruzer, my music podcast styled with a radio aesthetic. It’s my opportunity to let my inner radio disc jockey come out and play.

The genre i’m exploring in this episode is Nu Metal.

If you’re not familiar with Nu metal, it’s a subgenre of heavy metal music that originated in the late 1990s. It is characterized by a fusion of heavy metal and other genres, such as hip hop and alternative rock, and grunge. Nu metal often features heavy guitars and bass, as well as electronic influences and rap-style vocals. This fusion of styles allowed nu metal bands to create a unique sound that set them apart from other heavy metal bands. The use of electronic instruments and effects, such as synthesizers and drum machines, was also common in nu metal, giving the music a more modern and polished sound.

The genre was popular in the late 1990s and early 2000s, with bands like Korn, Limp Bizkit, and Linkin Park achieving mainstream success. However, nu metal has since declined in popularity and is not as widely listened to as it once was.

I’ve been listening to a lot of nu metal at the gym lately, which is why felt inspired to do a show on the genre to share some of my favourite nu metal tracks.

This episode or Radio Soulcruzer might best listened to while you’re working out of doing something that requires high energy.

Let me know what your favourite nu metal track is.

Peace,

Clay
