THE THRESHOLD
A Mini-Game of Narrative Alchemy
Welcome, Seeker
You stand at a threshold between two rooms. Behind you is a room containing your current story—everything that brought you here. Ahead is a room holding your next chapter—unknown but calling. This game helps you cross.
What You'll Need:
- 15 minutes of uninterrupted time
- An open mind and willing heart
- The courage to be honest with yourself
The dice will roll themselves. The prompts will guide you. You need only write what emerges.
Name Your Threshold
Every journey begins with recognition. What threshold are you standing at right now in your life?
Complete this sentence:
"I stand at the threshold between _________ and _________."
Examples: "between safety and growth" • "between the known and the mysterious" • "between who I was and who I'm becoming"
The Room Behind
Before you can cross, you must acknowledge what you're leaving. Roll the die to discover what aspect of this room to explore.

The Guardian Appears
At every threshold stands a guardian—the part of you that challenges your crossing. Roll to see which aspect of your guardian speaks.
Click the die to meet your guardian
Your Response
You may not be able to dismiss the guardian, but you can respond. They are, after all, a part of you trying to protect you.
Write your answer, beginning with:
"I hear you, and I know you're trying to protect me, but..."
The First Step
You've named your threshold, honored what came before, and faced your guardian. Now roll one final time to discover what crossing requires.

The Integration
You've completed the game. You've crossed the threshold—at least in the imaginal realm. Now comes the real work: bringing this crossing into your waking life.
Notice how the dice created surprises you couldn't control. How the prompts took you places you wouldn't have gone alone. How writing made the abstract concrete. How you authored your own insight.
Your threshold is real.
Your guardian is real.
Your first step is real.
What will you do with what you've learned?
