Attention is indeed a superpower, but it’s one you have to work hard at keeping under control, especially since there are so many ridiculous distractions around fighting to steal it from us.
This piece from Anne Alexander really resonated with me. I’m guilty of burning the candled at both ends as well as multitasking like a fiend, two things that are not so good for our attention, which turns out, is a superpower if you cultivate it.
I’m looking forward to reading Peak Mind, by DR Amishi Jha a neuroscientist who has done extensive research on how our attention works. She shares a great beginner’s technique for starting a mindfulness practice. It’s called STOP. I’ll walk you through it on the podcast.
